Stage 4: Adult Darkling Beetle
The newly emerged beetle starts out light brown or white. Within a few days, its exoskeleton hardens and darkens until it becomes black.
Adult beetles:
- Mate regularly
- Lay eggs throughout their lives
- Help start the next generation of mealworms
Most adult darkling beetles live 2 to 3 months, although lifespan can vary depending on care and environmental conditions.
